Meet the SENFC President and Chief Enthusiast - Francis W. Purvey

President of SENFC since March 2020, Francis W. Purvey became actively involved in sustainable meetings and events as Vice-Chair and sustainability champion of the 2013 SITE Global Conference in Orlando.  When Steven Pollock asked him to be Vice President of the GMIC Florida & Caribbean Chapter (SENFC's prior entity), it was on the understanding that he was not seeking nor would accept higher office.  He relented when the SENFC Board asked him to take on the 2020/21 Presidency.  He brings years of successes in tourism and hospitality management, sales and marketing focused on upscale and luxury resorts and destinations. Respected as an entrepreneurial innovator, leader and keen marketer, he is a noted speaker, panelist and educational contributor at industry events and trade shows, and is frequently quoted by trade publications.

He has been a member of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s Marketing Committee, and President (2010) of the Florida & Caribbean Chapter of SITE Global.  He was Vice Chair for Visit Florida’s Meetings & Travel Trade Advisory Committee and member of that public-private entity’s Marketing Steering Committee and served on several Florida DMO Boards.

    Restore Our Earth

For more than 50 years Earth Day has brought attention to climate change and other environmental degradations that have broken our natural systems, leading to new and fatal diseases as well as a breakdown of the global economy. But just as climate change and coronavirus painfully remind us of the harm we’ve caused, Earth Day 2021 reminds us of the opportunities that lay ahead. For more information go to earthday.org

Recordings from all presentations, panels and food demonstrations will be posted on savethefoodfl.com and

A message from Joanna Berens, Hospitality Day Chairperson and SENFC President-Elect.

"THANK YOU to our outstanding presenters, panelists and culinary demonstrators for your time, effort, knowledge and commitment to the cause which was evidenced by the participation in the April 7th Hospitality Day as part of the First (and hopefully “Annual”) Florida Food Waste Prevention Week.  THANK YOU also to the 100+ attendees eager to learn and share ideas with an objective to Stop Hunger and “Save The Planet”.   The responses have been extremely favorable and many people expressed how much they learned for their personal and professional engagement.

To let you know how these presentations impacted the day, this "food waste geek” (Joanna!) will be doing the following moving forward:  "I will never look at chick peas the same again, eggshells will now regularly go into my ever-expanding compost collection, I'm ready to install a garden (or panel) so I can pick my own produce, my berries will NEVER reach the point of no return and will instead go into the freezer and I will seek out the "imperfect" ones!  I thought I always bought sustainable chocolate, but I plan to step up my game, I actually noticed the new "take away beverage" legislation that the state is working on AND my dented peppers will continue to find new uses and will never go in the garbage!!

We can definitely say that the program made a great impact on the hospitality community.  Looking forward to more successes through SENFC."

    • About a SENFC Corporate Member - More Than Ink Printing

    • We implement many policies and procedures to ensure we're doing our very best, which include:

    • Using sustainable papers that are apart of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
    • Recycling our toners through Konica Minolta.
    • Doing our offset printing with vegetable-oil based or low-VOC letterpress inks.
    • Recycling paper waste and offering the same to our clients through Kelco Recycling.
    • Buying from eco-friendly vendors.
    • Having any new furniture we need made from reclaimed wood.
    • Using compostable products in our kitchen.

In our business, we've noticed that our main impacts to the environment are waste output and energy consumption. Because we want to leave the planet better than we've found it, we've incorporated strict guidelines, which allows us to reduce these things in all aspects of our business.
